Torrential Rains on Mauritius
In heavy flooding, torrential rainfall on the island of Mauritius, at least 11 people were killed on 30.3.2013. Most of the victims drowned in flooded pedestrian walkways and in a full underground car park in the capital, Port Louis. According to eyewitnesses, the water rose within a few minutes.
During the recent storm about 100 families lost all their belongings. In Port Louis many houses were flooded.
Gabriel Sachs, who was on the island at that time, immediately acted and organized rice, baby food, flour, and many other necessary foodstuffs to provide emergency aid.
